EBU STL Subtitle Viewer and EBU STL Subtitle Viewer Pro have been released

EBU STL Subtitle Viewer and EBU STL Subtitle Viewer Pro are now available for  manual analysis and validation of EBU STL subtitle file format.

The EBU STL subtitle data exchange file format became one of the most popular subtitle carrying formats in the broadcast industry. The subtitles are the most common way of conveying foreign language dialogs and textual information to the broadcaster’s audience. The importance of the subtitling technology is constantly increasing. It is almost vital for the contemporary companies from the broadcast industry to provide subtitling service to their audience. The STL subtitling format is supported by many broadcast, post-production and consumer solutions.

EBU STL Viewer is a unique solution for EBU STL subtitle file format examination. The subtitle format contains one General Subtitling Information data block, which is presented in the product in separate GSI tree view, showing all the fields of the structure and the respective descriptions. The subtitling information follows the GSI block. Each subtitle is wrapped in Text and Timing Information data block, containing the timing, subtitle information and additional informational and control fields. All TTI subtitle blocks are listed subsequently in the list view of the EBU STL Viewer solution. Additionally, all the fields of the currently selected TTI block is represented in separate tree view with, along with the field description. Hex data editing of GSI and each TTI block enables the solution for easy file manipulation. Hexadecimal representation is of the whole STL file is provided at the bottom window of the solution.

EBU STL Viewer Pro is a product extension of the standard EBU STL Viewer product. Through its STL Validation Module, it provides validation of the EBU STL subtitle file, according to the EBU “Specification of the EBU Subtitling data exchange format” – TECH 3264 specification. The validation process examines and validates the internal General Subtitle Information (GSI) block and all Text and Timing Information (TTI) blocks structure. The validation of a single EBU STL subtitle file takes only a few second, thus enabling the product for fast processing of big number of local or remote files.
